A Pantone Colour Institute Refresher
The Pantone Colour Institute is a part of the Pantone company that does trend forecasting and even colour consultations for other businesses! They choose the Colour of the Year using colour psychology to capture our mood. Their aim is to “draw attention to the relationship between culture and [colour]”. All kinds of professionals and industries await the Colour of the Year announcement so they can start incorporating it into their product designs.
Meet Mocha Mousse
Mocha Mousse is a gentle, luxurious brown shade that exudes warmth. The colour is reminiscent of everyday luxuries like chocolate and coffee, “appealing to our desire for comfort“. Last year, Peach Fuzz drew on our collective desire for togetherness in a year filled with global turmoil.
Though the conflicts that influenced last year’s colour selection aren’t yet resolved, Mocha Mousse invites us to escape into the everyday moments. The colour “brings us into harmony with an ever-changing world”. The colour has the ability to be both a base colour and an accent for other colours. We expect to see many neutral, muted palettes throughout this colour’s reign!

For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.

Whereas 2023 (Viva Magenta) and 2024 (Peach Fuzz) were about celebrating coming out of the pandemic and bringing light in a time of global turmoil, Mocha Mousse invites a quieter celebration.
Mocha Mousse’s Impact On Packaging
Packaging can take on a luxurious edge without going to extremes using this soft brown shade. The colour is neutral, but still rich enough to stand on its own or with other colours. From chocolate, to cafes, fashion and beyond, we envision Mocha Mousse taking us through many different packaging solutions and industries.
We’ve already seen varieties of this shade in many different businesses, and with the announcement of it as the Colour of the Year, we’re sure it will take further flight into other industries.
