Finding the right packaging for frozen foods can be hard. What kind of packaging works best? What options are available? In today’s post, we’re showing you 4 options for frozen food.

Folding Cartons
Folding cartons are great options for many different types of packaging, including frozen items! When creating packaging for the freezer with folding cartons, we usually recommend a thicker paperboard material. Additionally, if the frozen items are coming in direct contact with the packaging, you can add an interior coating for more protection.

There are two main kinds of coating that we recommend:
Wax
Wax coatings are likely what come to mind when you think of food packaging. While wax is great for making paper products water resistant, it’s not the most eco-friendly. Unfortunately, wax coated paper products are not recyclable, contrary to popular belief!
Oil Finish
Here at LeKAC, instead of offering a wax finish, we offer something called an oil finish! Despite its name, oil finishes are water based. This special coating is recyclable, and 100% biodegradable! This option offers protection without weighing everything down.
Corrugated Box
Corrugated boxes are our top pick for stability and protection. This material is made of a fluted interior sandwiched between an inside and outside liner. It’s strong, lightweight and cost-effective!

Similar to our folding cartons, we offer the option of an oil finish coating to protect against sogginess. As another option, you can add insulation to make sure that everything stays cold!
Cooler Bags
Our next frozen food suggestion is cooler bags! For those who are looking for a reusable option, this is the way to go! These reusable bags are insulated to keep items cool. While we don’t recommend this option for long term storage, it’s a great choice for short term transportation for cold foods.

Kraft Paper Pouches
A Kraft paper pouch is another space-efficient, freezer safe option! Similar to the folding cartons, these can also have a waxed or oil finish interior. You can also recycle these pouches depending on the coating you use!
