UV printing is an alternative to traditional printing options. Though this method also uses ink, it requires no dry time and is slightly more durable than other print types. Read on to learn more!
How It Works
This print style uses special ink that dries instantly under an ultraviolet (UV) light. The ink has polymers and monomers that, when interacting with the UV light, fuse together, hardening immediately.
UV ink can be applied to a wider variety of surfaces and materials. Since it dries immediately, the designs and print won’t run, making it easier to achieve more fine detail and higher resolution designs. Designs printed with this type of ink also have fewer emissions than traditional solvent-based inks! Overall, UV printing can yield more vibrant, durable results than other printing methods.

Many UV printers use LED lights to cure the ink, however others may not. Non-LED bulbs are hotter, and may cause materials to warp while printing. Some printers feature suction cups that can hold down the material in order to prevent this, but sturdier materials shouldn’t have this problem.
Different Ways To Use UV Printing
UV inks are great for all kinds of applications, but these are our favourite ways you can incorporate UV printing into your business’ packaging and branding:
Spot UV
Spot UV refers to a printing application where UV ink is only added in small areas rather than across the entire design! UV ink also has the unique ability to also create 3D textures, which can help enhance your business’ designs in a subtle way! Our favourite way to use spot UV? Paired with a soft-touch matte finish for that extra contrast.
Promotional Items
Adding a UV print to promotional items can help them stand out! On items like USB drives, pens, and even phone cases, UV printing can help create precise details!

Signage
Since UV prints are resistant to weather and fading, using this printing ink would be ideal for outdoor signage from window decals, storefront signs and more!
