As LeKAC Sourcing’s first product, the reusable bag holds a special place in our hearts. Today, we’re talking about two different reusable bag printing techniques, and which technique is best for your reusable bag.

Types of Reusable bags
Reusable bags are versatile, and come in a variety of materials and finishes. Some of our most popular materials are:
- Non-Woven PP
- Laminated
- Heat Sealed
- Canvas
- Kraft Woven
- High Density Polyester
Based on the level of detail that your design has, there are different printing options available!
Silkscreen printing
The first reusable bag printing technique is silkscreen printing. A mesh screen and a blocking stencil are used to spread ink onto a product. We talked about the advantages and disadvantages of this technique more in detail in a previous blog post.
Screen printing works best for designs that are simple, and have solid colours. By layering the colours in blocks, you can get a larger design!
The desired design in the example above uses four different colours, and uses a different screen for each colour. By layering these colours, you can get the final design, as seen on the far right!
However, different bag materials will take to different reusable bag printing techniques. Screen printing is so versatile that you can print on many different surfaces!
laminated printing
By applying a thin plastic film to the bag, you can change the finish of the bag. It all depends on the look you’re going for!
Laminated printing works by printing the design on a thin film, and then applying it to the surface of the bag using heat. For more detailed designs, laminated print is ideal! This style of print uses CMYK printing, and is more durable than screen printing.
Additionally, laminated bags are waterproof! This printing technique is great for things like grocery store bags, and you’ve probably even seen some at your local grocer.
When to use silk screen vs laminate printing
Next, we’re going to talk about when it would be best to use silk screen print versus laminate printing. Like we mentioned above, silk screen print is best for simple, minimal designs. However, if you want to print something like a detailed photo, laminate printing would be the better printing method!
The lefthand bag’s design is very simple, using one to two colours, whereas the bag on the right features a photo of a tree stump that is very detailed.
Laminated designs also last longer, since the design is between the bag material and the laminate film.
