Cooler bags are the perfect summer packaging staple. True to their name, these bags are insulated to keep whatever’s inside the perfet temperature. But what makes a cooler bag? Read on to learn more!
The Base
Our cooler bags begin with an exterior base of either woven or non-woven polypropylene (PP) material. Depending on the look you’re going for, there are a number of options available:
Heat Pressed Dots
Heat pressed dots are not only an aesthetic choice, but they can also help fuse the lining to the bags! Our suppliers form these dots by applying heat and pressure to fuse the non-woven material into the dot pattern. This is possible with both non-woven and woven materials, but is most commonly paired with the non-woven variety!

Lamination

Adding a laminated finish can help create a more water-resistant fabric, which can help protect against condensation that might be associated with hot and cold foods. Laminated cooler bags are also perfect for when your design requires more detail since the design can be printed digitally onto the laminate fill rather than the bag material.
The Lining
This is the part that makes the cooler bag cool–the insulated lining! Though we call these bags cooler bags, don’t be fooled; they can also hold hot items! The silver thermal insulation can help keep your products at the perfect temperature. But be warned: these bags are not replacements for your freezer or fridge! They’re perfect for short stints away from refrigeration.

The Closure
In order to keep your food at the right temperature, it’s important to keep the cold in (or out!). All cooler bags, in addition to insulation also feature a closure of some kind. There are a number of closure styles depending not only on what look you’re going for, but also what you’re packaging! For example, some bags feature a zipper straight across the top, whereas others have an extra flap for a flat-top finish.

The structure that features the additional flap offers more vertical space than the version with the zipper straight across. This is especially helpful if you’re transporting items that require a little more height!
